    Job Title: Counselor/Therapist Working towards their Licensure

    Job Description:

    The Counselor assists in the prevention of substance abuse and the treatment of residents with substance abuse problems. The counselor plans, manages and provides services to residents in treatment. This individual utilizes case history to develop individual, group and family therapy techniques, administration, community organization, consultation and case management planning.

    The Counselor will facilitate & co-facilitate groups/education sessions, perform individual therapy sessions, make chart note entries, write treatment plans, create relapse prevention plans, and educate the resident on substance abuse issues. They will also perform duties while adhering to the organization’s values and principles.

    Education and Training Requirements:

    • This position shall be for a registered or certified/Master’s level in compliance with California State law to provide alcohol and drug counseling in pursuant of Section 13010, Title 9, California Code of Regulations by either CAADE, CCAAP, or CADTP, or be a licensed professional that may include but not limited to: LCSW, MFT, Licensed Psychologist, Physician, or Registered Intern, or any other classification listed in Section 13015
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification
    • 2 years of experience with a substance abuse population and treatment model
    • Current TB test results
    • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including booster shot

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Admission assessment and preliminary treatment plan with the Director for assigned residents
    • Assist the client in completing the Resident Health Questionnaire and Initial Screening Form (DHCS 5103); review and signed questionnaire and intake documents within 24 hours of admission to ensure the resident is appropriate for treatment at our facility
    • At intake, document the Resident’s signs and symptoms using a CIWA/COWS form. The CIWA/COWS will be filled out starting with the time of intake. Documentation of observations and physical checks shall be recorded and signed
    • Initiates discharge planning upon admission for assigned residents and updates discharge plan weekly
    • Develop and implement treatment plans. Monitor and chart resident progress and implement modifications to the resident’s program as needed
    • Facilitates multi-disciplinary treatment planning and updates for assigned residents (ensures inclusion of all treatment modalities/disciplines)
    • Conducts individual sessions for all assigned residents (at least weekly)
    • Participates in group counseling, education and meetings per program schedule
    • Facilitates couples/family sessions as specified in individual residents’ treatment plans
    • Interfaces with assigned managed care company, or referral source, for treatment planning and concurrent review
    • Approves any resident passes
    • Facilitates ancillary services/community referrals for assigned residents (including coordination of transportation)
    • Facilitates legal commitments/court appearances
    • Coordinates all treatment services needed for assigned resident caseload
    • Communicates with staff via communication book and resident’s record to maximize utilization of milieu in supporting the resident’s treatment plan
    • Ensures resident records for assigned caseload are accurate and complete, and meet licensing standards in a timely manner
    • Participates in in-service training, individual/group supervision meetings, and staff meetings
    • Supports aftercare program by meeting with alumni on an as-needed basis (when approved by Director)

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $58,000.00 – $62,000.00 per year
