Description

A 90-minute workshop for mental health professionals on the Adoptee Consciousness Model (ACM), a framework for understanding and working with transracially adopted individuals and their families. The presentation integrates three family systems theory approaches to address the unique therapeutic needs of this population. The presenter reviews common clinical presentations for transracial adoptees as they relate to the ACM, including identity development challenges and family system dynamics. Participants will learn to apply the ACM alongside family systems interventions to create culturally responsive treatment approaches.

Educational Goals/Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify the five touchstones of the Adoptee Consciousness Model (ACM) to support their work with adopted persons and their families.
  2. Compare three family systems theoretical approaches to pair with the ACM.
  3. Identify at least one family systems intervention when working with adoptees and families.
