Letter from SVC-CAMFT

August 27, 2020,

Greetings SVC-CAMFT Members,

Can you believe we are nearing the end of August, battling extreme heat and fires, addressing social, economic, and gender inequalities, approaching another historic presidential election while our world is fighting a pandemic? What will the rest of 2020 bring?

Well, for one, SVC-CAMFT has a scheduled board meeting on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 12:30p. Also, we will host our first 6-hour Suicide Risk Management workshop on October 2, 2020.  On Friday, November 6, 2020 SVC-CAMFT will host our annual meeting. The time may be modified since we are no longer meeting in person. This is a great opportunity for members to hear the year in review, inquire about the plans for 2021 and vote on the 2021 budget. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us. Your engagement, input and vote matters. Covid-19 may prevent us from meeting face-to-face yet SVC-CAMFT plans to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Stay tuned for more information.

SVC-CAMFT is looking to hire an administrative assistant. Our current administrative assistant, Heather Blessing, LMFT, has served SVC-CAMFT in various capacities for over 10 years. Heather is ready to continue her journey in private practice and explore other opportunities. We honor her service and applaud her decision. Thank you Heather for your contributions.

Do you have any ideas and feedback on how SVC-CAMFT could best benefit the therapists and consumers of mental health services within the Sacramento Valley? Do you have a few hours each month to spare? Do you enjoy working with others? Perhaps you are skilled in social media, finance or technology. Maybe you have tips on how to engage fellow clinicians. If so, please consider volunteering with SVC-CAMFT by joining our board and serving within established committees. We have openings for several positions including Treasurer and President-Elect while also having space for members to volunteer on the various committees such as Bylaws, Volunteer, Ethics, Finance, and Membership. We need your energy, input and talents. Consider joining us in making a difference within the Sacramento Valley.

Lastly, continue to care for yourself during these times. You give so much of yourself while supporting others along their life journey. It is imperative your well isn't dry as you pour into others. Please know SVC-CAMFT is available for you. Our next virtual Community Huddle is Sunday, August 30, 2020 at 6:30p. Grab your favorite beverage and snack and come join us as we connect and support one another amid Covid-19.

In joy and transformation,

Linita Morris, LMFT

SVC-CAMFT President

News from the BBS

A Message From BBS

The California Departments of Health Care Services (DHCS) and Public Health (CDPH) and the Office of the California Surgeon General (OSG) are reaching out due to the ongoing concerns of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and the immediate and long-term impacts on the mental health of California’s residents.

As a mental health professional you are aware that social isolation, financial insecurity, and unemployment all drive increases in deaths from suicide, overdose, and illness, disproportionately impacting communities of color. This letter is an effort to inform all health care providers of the impact and to provide them the tools and resources to address mental health concerns and suicide prevention with their patients.

The letter also includes important information and guides for self-care, including COVID-19 counseling for health care workers.

Please take the opportunity to review the letter (https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/Documents/COVID-19/Health-Care-Provider-Suicide-Prevention-6-29-20.pdf) to learn what is being shared with California health care providers.

We are also including the following link to learn more about suicide prevention efforts in California.

California’s Strategic Plan for Suicide Prevention 2020-2025. -- https://mhsoac.ca.gov/sites/default/files/Suicide%20Prevention%20Plan_Final.pdf

We appreciate your time and ongoing efforts to protect the health of our communities.

Thank you and stay safe.
