This program will benefit LMFT, LPCC, LEP and LCSW licensees and pre licensees by giving the participants the opportunity to be immersed in the basic foundation of the laws and ethical guidelines that guide and protect clinical practice. Up to date changes in rules and regulations will be integrated throughout. Use of video scenarios to invite audience participation along with questions and discussion points that support a deeper learning environment. In this 6 hour course participants will review confidentiality, mandated reporting, and privilege when working with individuals, couples, and families. Participants will use scenarios to understand new CAMFT ethical codes as it pertains to our responsibility to the legal system, dual/multiple relationships, and informed consent and disclosure. Updates will be given on BBS recent changes in law and regulation.


Includes: Meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  Sacramento Valley Chapter of California Marriage and Family Therapists (SVC-CAMFT) CAMFT CEPA CE Provider #62279 is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor Continuing Education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs. SVC-CAMFT maintains the responsibility for the program and all its content.  CE Credit will be awarded after the completion of the course via email in exchange for a completed course evaluation form.

No CEs will be awarded to persons arriving late or leaving early. Partial CE credit will not be awarded. 
 

Overview: This training is meant to allow flexibility in attending one day or both days - Each day offers it's own teaming objectives so choose what is important to you!

Workshop Information:
Complies with 6 hour Law and Ethics requirements for Continuing Education required by BBS.  The two-day course complies with the BBS 12-hour course requirement to be eligible to retake the CA law and ethics exam.  This is not an exam prep class.
Choice of 6 hours by coming to FRIDAY ONLY CLASS or SATURDAY ONLY CLASS or 12 hours by coming to BOTH DAYS. 

DAY 1:

In this Law and Ethics Training participants will have the opportunity to be immersed in the basic foundation of the laws and ethical guidelines that guide and protect clinical practice.   1. Understand our legal mandates for confidentiality, privilege, and exceptions to confidentiality with emphasis on working with couples, children, and families

  2. Knowledge of complexities of informed consent with children 

  3. Discuss how to minimize harm when changing unit of treatment

  4. Identify rules and guidelines when working with minors

  5. Integrate CAMFT ethical codes as it pertains to our responsibility to the legal system, dual/multiple relationships, and informed consent and disclosure.

  6. Updates on new laws that effect our practice

DAY 2:
In this Law and Ethics Training participants will have the opportunity to be immersed in the basic foundation of the laws and ethical guidelines that guide and protect clinical practice. Up to date changes in rules and regulations will be integrated throughout. Use of video scenarios to invite audience participation along with questions and discussion points that support a deeper learning environment. In this 6 hour course participants will examine how telehealth and social media is shaping therapy. Participants will use scenarios to understand new CAMFT ethical codes as it pertains to telehealth, social media, advertisement, and informed consent and disclosure.
  1. Examine how telehealth and social media is shaping therapy

  2. Understand rules for advertising and disclosures

  3. How to integrate testimonials while following new ethical guidelines

  4. Understanding and avoiding unethical dual relationships

Presenter Bio:
Darlene Davis is licensed in the state of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and have a private practice in Roseville CA. She finds it rewarding to work with couples, families, and individuals in discovering the life they desire, enabling them to live life to its fullest potential. She has worked with those that have struggled with chronic pain, anxiety, addiction, unhealthy dependency, depression, and a variety of life challenges that come into our lives. She has completed Gottman Level I and Level II training for couples work, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples - Externship, and has a certification inTrauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is trained in Level I and II EMDR. She is the Director of HOPE Counseling that offers low cost therapy to the community and training Associates and trainees to hold the highest level of professionalism and integrity for our profession. She has been on the CAMFT Ethics committee for 8 years, is a CAMFT certified supervisor and serves as an expert consultant for the BBS. She offers MFT Law and Ethics Exam Training both in person and online. Additionally, she was a faculty member at University of Phoenix, Sacramento campus, in the Master's of Science in Counseling program for 13 years. She served as President of the Sacramento Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists for two terms, both in 2008 and 2010. She receive the Distinguished Clinical Member CAMFT award in 2018.

Registration Policy
Effective January 1, 2018 SVC-CAMFT event registration must be paid online except with prior approval.  Registration dates and fees may vary and are subject to change without notice.  Event discounts prices and discount periods may or may not be offered.  Event registration is deemed complete during the registration period in which registration payment is received.  Incomplete or unpaid registration will be cancelled and removed at the end of each registration period.

Cancellations received more than 7 days prior to an event may be subject to an administrative fee to cover costs of the initial transaction.  No shows, failure to attend, and cancellations 7 or fewer days prior to an event for any reason are non-refundable, including registrations received fewer than 7 days prior to an event. No credit, refunds, or price adjustments will be given for typographical advertisement errors.
